These programs are ideal for students between the ages of 14 – 20 years, who are disengaged from education in a mainstream setting. We provide individual attention and use relevant adult learning principals with a youth-focus to keep the young people interested in achieving a range of measurable learning outcomes towards their future.

| CGEA – Certificate in General Education for Adults |
The Certificate in General Education for Adults is a widely used curriculum which is seen to meet the needs of a range of learners. While the CGEA Certificates main focus is on the core units including Literacy and Numeracy, it also provides a framework for developing skills in a range of general and vocational areas as the students will participate in the assigned elective modules.
The flexibility of the curriculum is highly regarded in terms of its content and has been widely used throughout Australia by TAFE Institutes and Registered Training Organisations. The CGEA courses are run for a period of 6 months each with students attending classes 4 days per week.

| VCAL – Victorian Certificate in Applied Learning |
This is equivalent to a Year 11 pass
The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) is a hands-on option for students, that gives practical work-related experience, as well as literacy and numeracy skills and the opportunity to build personal skills that are important for life and work.
VCAL is an accredited secondary certificate which runs within the same timeframe as VCE, with each level (Intermediate or Senior) completed in one year.
Each student will spend 3 days per week on Literacy, Oral Communications, Numeracy, Work Related Skills and Personal Development Skills, and one day each on VET, work experience and volunteer work. We have 1 intake per year for our VCAL programs.

Interviews are required before any student is placed into or commences one of our Youth programs; therefore it is important to ring Sarah, Manager of the Youth Services Department on 9704 7388 for an appointment time.
PRECAL Programs
PreCal is an integrated program with a ‘work ready’ focus, which can be modified for both year 9 and year 10 students. This program will prepare the students to move into either:
- VCAL at a mainstream school or at Narre Community Learning Centre
- Employment, including Apprenticeships or Traineeships.
- VCE at either mainstream school or TAFE.
Classes are held 1 day per week at Narre Community Learning Centre.
Upon successful completion of Pre Cal, students have a number of accredited qualifications including:
- Certificate I in Business BSB10107
- Level II First Aid Certificate HLTFA301B
- A selection of units from the Certificate in General Education for Adults Training Package
- A Food Handling Certificate SITXOHS002A.
In 2004, Narre Community Learning Centre commenced a partnership with a local secondary school to deliver the Pre Cal program to their students. This year we have expanded our delivery of the program to 3 secondary colleges in total.
Currently we have availability to form partnerships with local secondary schools for the delivery of the PreCal program.

VET In Schools programs:
Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) programs provide further educational and employment opportunities and pathways for senior secondary students.
Upon successful completion, the program offers students:
- An accredited vocational certificate with credits that contribute toward the VCE and VCAL certificates and the ENTER or study score
- Training in a specific industry area
- A qualification which will provide access to further education and training opportunities
- An opportunity to use learned knowledge and skills in a simulated or actual workplace environment known as Structured Workplace Learning (SWL)
- Improved chances of gaining employment upon successful completion
